Liebe Musik-Freunde

Ab und zu griff er zur Ukulele und sang ein „ditty“ wie „I don’t want her, you can have her, she’s too fat for me“, oder erschien in Nebenrollen in Filmen und im Fernsehen.

Gewiss wurden alle hier vorkommenden Titel irgendwann in seinen Shows vorgetragen.

wie i dä alte Tage“.

Dear Friends,

During the late 1940s and 1950s we used to listen to „Arthur Godfrey’s Talent Scouts“ or „Arthur Godfrey and his Friends“ over AFN in Europe and later on CBS in New York and Chicago. He was an all-round talent. Most of all however, he was known for his “laissez-fair”, cool and collected way to talk himself through his shows. From time to time he reached for his ukulele and sang a ditty like “Oh, I don’t want her, you can have her, she’s too fat for me”, or he appeared in cameo roles in film and television productions.

Like so many other show masters of the „old guard“, he came out of the beginning of radio entertainment and worked himself to „idol of the nation“ status. A former pianist in his orchestra told me, that Arthur Godfrey was fair and hard with his employees, quite different from his smile and jovial sound of his voice.

The following music program does not reflect the singers who appeared on „the Old Redhead’s“ shows, but it represents the music of that époque. I am sure though, that all titles which you will hear, were at one time or another included in his programs.

So, if you can, take a break for another hour of “Seems like old times”!
It will keep you swinging and smiling!
